This course is designed to develop work ready skills for you to start your career in the Beauty industry.
To achieve NVQ Level 2 you will attend the academy for approximately 20 hours per week, from September to July. Your training will consist of practical, theory, portfolio building, evidence collection and personal tutorial sessions; these form the basis of your individual learning plan.
Your practical training will take place in the commercial training salon. This is open to the public allowing you excellent opportunities to gain lots of salon experience and access to assessments.
This is a Job ready qualification, meaning you will be employable at the end of your training.
Level 2 (NVQ) Diploma in Beauty Therapy
In your training you will study the following units;
- Facial treatments
- Eye treatments including tinting and shaping
- Make up techniques for day, evening and occasions
- Health and Safety
- Retail and treatment sales
- Working as part of a team
- Reception duties
This qualification is to be achieved through continual assessment of your practical work and your theory understanding using tests and oral questioning, evidence of competence will be collected in a portfolio of evidence.
All NVQ Level 2 students are offered the opportunity of participating in additional job ready training activities as shown below:
Jessica - Manicure and pedicure workshop including treatment techniques and product knowledge.
Dermalogica - Product knowledge and sales guidance with the American skin care company.
Certification costs may be incurred for some of the above.
Formal qualifications are not required to study Diploma in Beauty Therapy (NVQ) Level 2, however, it is desirable to have achieved four/five GCSE’s at grade C or above.
It is essential that all candidates have an enquiring mind, enthusiasm, motivation, a desire to work with people and immaculate personal presentation.
Your acceptance on the course will be dependant on a successful interview and suitable references.
Advanced Apprenticeship / Level 3 (NVQ) Diploma in Beauty Therapy
Employment in a Beauty Salon, Spa, Cruise ships, Make-up artist
(HABIA—Industry standard setting body advise level 3 as the minimum level for qualified entry to full employment)
