Indian head massage is based on the Ayurveda system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. It involves massage to the head, face, upper back, shoulders, arms and hands that relieves tension in the muscles; it can be relaxing, stimulating and invigorating.
This Award is about the skills involved in providing Indian head massage treatment. The ability to adapt massage techniques to suit individual client needs and the environment in which the massage takes place are crucial requirements. The ability to perform Indian head massages with and without the use of oils is also required.
To achieve NVQ Level 3 Award you will attend the academy for approximately 141 guided learning hours, with work experience in a running commercial salon. Your training will consist of practical, theory, portfolio building, evidence collection and personal tutorial sessions; these form the basis of your individual learning plan.
Your practical training will take place in the commercial training salon. This is open to the public allowing you excellent opportunities to gain lots of salon experience and access to assessments.
- Safe and effective methods of working when providing Indian head massage.
- How to perform Indian head massage including how to work safely and effectively.
- How to prepare for providing Indian head massages including different mediums and understanding the contra-indications and contra-actions that affect or restrict massage treatments.
- Knowledge of key anatomy and physiology related to Indian head massages.
- Understand how to provide aftercare advice.
To achieve this Certificate, you must practically demonstrate that you have met the standard for providing an Indian Head Massage treatment.
Your practical skills will be assessed using observations of your skills on three occasions with three separate clients. To accompany this, your knowledge and understanding will be assessed via two external exam papers. This qualification is to be achieved through continual assessment of your practical work and your theory understanding using tests and oral questioning, evidence of competence will be collected in a portfolio of evidence.
Formal qualifications are not required to study NVQ Level 3 Award in Indian head Massage, however it is desirable to have achieved four/five GCSE’s at grade C or above.
It is essential that all candidates have an enquiring mind, enthusiasm, motivation, a desire to work with people and immaculate personal presentation.
Your acceptance on the course will be dependant on a successful interview and suitable references.
Employment in a Salon, Spa, Cruise ships, Hotels, Leisure environments (HABIA - industry standard setting body advise level 3 as the minimum level for qualified entry to full employment)
